Designed for junior high pianists at intermediate levels of performance. All students will receive daily private instruction, and will prepare a solo piece for a final performance at the conclusion of the program. Students will also be monitored in their practice by their instructor. All students will have the opportunity to attend a special topics class at the end of every day.
Format: interactive (synchronous) instruction via Zoom.
Eligibility: For students completing grades 7-9.

- Submit a 5 minute recording of your playing. Audio or video (cell phone quality) is acceptable, and your recording should contain 2 contrasting selections of your choice. This helps determine placement in lessons and classes. Files must be named “Last Name, First Name_Title of Selection”. Recordings are due no later than Sunday, June 20, 2021.

Adrienne Wiley, Central Michigan University
Adrienne Wiley is currently Professor of Music at Central Michigan University where she teaches and administers the piano pedagogy program at the bachelor’s degree level, and teaches applied and class piano. Dr. Wiley received her bachelors and master’s degrees in piano performance from the University of Kansas, and her doctor of musical arts in piano performance and pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Wiley’s dual focus on performance and pedagogy keeps her active in both areas: she maintains an active performance career as a soloist and collaborative pianist, and also has given workshops, presentations, and lectures throughout the state, mid-west, national, and international levels. Dr. Wiley is certified through the Music Teachers National Association at the state and national levels. She has served MTNA (national level) in many capacities: most notably the Local Associations Awards Chair, the MTNA Senior Performance Competitions Chair, and other select committees. She has been active in the Michigan Music Teachers Association as well, holding various offices since she came to Michigan. She is currently the East Central Division Competitions Coordinator for MTNA.
Dr. Wiley received the nomination for Teacher of the Year for the MTNA national level (2013); received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Michigan Music Teachers Association (2013); and received the Touchstone Award (2014) through the Michigan Music Teachers Association and the Michigan Youth Arts Council. In her spare time, Dr. Wiley has authored articles that have appeared in the American Music Teacher Magazine, Keyboard Companion, Clavier magazines, and the Clavier-Companion (Clavier and Clavier-Companion are now PIANO). Wiley reviewed the book, One-Handed: A Guide to Piano Music for One Hand for the Journal of the Music Library Association, and has been a frequently invited reviewer of piano music and books for the Music Teachers National Association’s American Music Teacher magazine and the PIANO, and recently joined the PIANO as a staff reviewer.
Dr. Wiley’s specialty is one-handed piano music: she has written articles on the topic, delivered workshops at the state, mid-west, national and international levels. She was invited to present at the International Society of Music Education in Brazil, 2014, Glasgow, Scotland, 2016, and at the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers National Conference in Canada, 2015 and 2019. She will present at the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy this summer, 2019, as well.
Summer finds Dr. Wiley as the coordinator of the junior piano camps at the Illinois Summer Youth Music Program’s piano camp, where she has been on the ISYM teaching faculty for over 14 years.
Chee Hyeon Choi, Bradley University
The recipient of the 2020 Teacher of the Year award from the Illinois Music Teachers Association (ISMTA), Dr. Chee Hyeon Choi is a piano faculty of Bradley University. She is Vice President-Conferences of ISMTA and has actively performed and presented internationally and nationally. She has performed at various venues for solo and ensemble concerts, such as the Bradley Symphony Orchestra, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, and Salt Creek Chamber Orchestra, and recent virtual performances at Music by Women International Festival. She has also presented in numerous conferences and workshops, including Music Teachers National Association, National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, College Music Society, Korea Pedagogy Conference, Improvisation Symposium, Central Michigan University. Most recently, she was invited to present at the College Music Society Southern Chapter in February and at the University of Wisconsin Platteville in March. Her research has specialized in discovering effective pedagogical methods and performances. Her article, Integrating Technology in Group Piano Curriculum for Music Educators of the Next Generation was published in the Journal of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction.
Dr. Choi is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) for the Music Teachers Association and adjudicated numerous festivals and competitions. A native of South Korea, Dr. Choi holds her Master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy and her doctoral degree in Piano Performance & Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She was a faculty member at Millikin University and the Piano Lab Program Coordinator at UIUC. She has served on the piano faculty for Illinois Summer Youth Music camps since 2007 and has directed the Bradley Summer Piano Camp since 2014.
Sam Gingher, Millikin University
Dr. Samuel Gingher has been thrilled to teach for ISYM camps since 2012. He has served on the piano faculty at Millikin University since 2014, where he currently teaches the class piano curriculum, commercial music theory, a University seminar course in songwriting, and offers private instruction through the preparatory department in addition to providing ad hoc accompanying duties. His research interests include classical piano improvisation pedagogy and the discovery and performance of rare masterworks. Sam’s recent recording of world-premiere piano trios by Carl Czerny (with Sun-Young Shin and Benjamin Hayek) can be heard on the Naxos label, with a new disc of four-handed piano fantasies by Czerny (with Pei-I Wang) scheduled for September 2021 release.
Dr. Samuel Gingher has been the winner of several competitions and recipient of many awards, including the Krannert Debut Artist Award, first prize in Brevard Music Festival’s International Solo Piano Competition, first prize in WVU’s Intersection between Jazz and Classical solo piano festival competition, the 21st Century Piano Commission Competition at UIUC, and concerto competition winner at UNC-Chapel Hill, UIUC, and the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra Young Artist’s concerto competition in Georgia, to highlight a few. He has performed and taught in piano and chamber music festivals in North Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, California, West Virginia, Austria and Switzerland, and has played in a variety of new music, chamber and jazz groups. Dr. Gingher is active in the DAMTA chapter of MTNA and often serves as a clinician and adjudicator for ISMTA conferences. He maintains a private piano studio in the Champaign-Urbana area.
Dr. Gingher has additional experience as a composer, arranger, producer, and as a free-lance audio engineer, and has produced albums on the Naxos, Centaur and China Record Corporation labels. Sam holds a DMA in Piano Performance and Literature (2015), MM in Piano Pedagogy (2011) and MM in Piano Performance (2009) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and BM in Piano Performance from UNC-Chapel Hill (2006). His former teachers include Timothy Ehlen, Thomas Otten, Edmund Paolantonio and Connie Kotis.
Natalie Landowski, Western Illinois University
Natalie Landowski, D.M.A., joined the piano faculty at Western Illinois University in 2019, where she currently serves as the keyboard area coordinator, piano instructor, and MTNA faculty advisor. She holds the B.M. (University of California, Irvine), M.M. (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) and D.M.A. (University of Iowa) degrees, and her primary teachers include Ksenia Nosikova, Alan Huckleberry, Reid Alexander, William Heiles and Lorna Griffitt.
Landowski started her teaching career at the age of sixteen and is well versed with teaching piano at all levels in both group and private settings. She was awarded the Graduate Teaching Certificate from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign’s Center of Teaching Excellence, and was cited on the institution’s list of Teachers Ranked as Excellent (2011–12). Prior to Western Illinois University, she served on the piano faculty at Grand View University (Des Moines, IA), the University of Iowa’s Pre-College Piano Conservatory (Iowa City, IA), and the Nancy Cree Keyboard Learning Centers (Coralville, IA). She also coordinated Grand View University’s very first piano youth camp in 2019, and has been teaching at the Illinois Summer Youth Music, and University of Iowa’s Piano Youth festivals.
An active performer, Landowski has presented solo and chamber ensemble performances for WIU’s Faculty concerts, the University of Iowa’s Piano Sundays and Steinway Extravaganza series, and at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, the Upper Bay Philharmonic Society, and Irvine City Hall, as well as other venues. She has attended music festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe, and played in master classes given by notable artists such as Gary Graffman, Menahem Pressler, Eduardo Delgado, Kenneth Drake and Edward Parmentier. She is currently collaborating and touring with musicologist Marian Wilson Kimber, author of The Elocutionists: Women, Music, and the Spoken Word (Univ. of Illinois Press, 2017), reviving the lost art form of musical readings.
Since 2016, Landowski has been involved in projects that include presenting pedagogy workshops and giving master classes at universities throughout southern California, Illinois, and Wisconsin. She has also been invited to give her lecture recital at several regional conferences for the College Music Society, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s 2018 Baroque Festival and at the 2019 Minnesota Music Teachers Association convention.
